How To Speak With Charisma, Wednesday Workshop by Hyder Taufik, on June 10th
Jun 10 2020, the wonderful Wednesday workshop was by Hyder Taufik.
Setback - Non-Member
All day I was exchanging messages with TMD Pallavi and Learncool developer Yudy. We had too many speakers, four. But somebody always drops out.
The day started with a setback. Pallavi was asking for Shona's Pathways project level. I speculated that perhaps Shona was not a member of any Toastmasters club. Pallavi was adamant, "In that case Shona cannot give a speech. It is not a Pathways speech, which is required by toastmasters, and the Evaluator does not have the form to evaluate it."
Shona admitted she was not a Toastmaster. Speaker lost!
On the other hand, we now had 3 speakers. Just the right number. Not too many.
Opportunity - Potential New Member
I had been hunting for ages for non-members of toastmasters to join BHA. Now I had one, Shona!
WOD and Topics - First
While people were logging in I showed the slide of the word of the day which was 'first'. The best thing about the word was it was the basis of a series of excellent table topics (impromptu speeches).

While people were logging in I showed the slide of the word of the day which was 'first'. The best thing about the word was it was the basis of a series of excellent table topics (impromptu speeches).
'What was your first love?', Topics Master, Li Xian, asked new member, John the elder.
John started, 'My first love was my dog, Lassie.' That was unexpected.
I was asked, 'Angela, what did you do recently for the first time?'
I replied, 'I made a caftan from a fringed scarf folded in half lengthways.'
John's View of WWII Contrasted with Covid-19
John gave his repeated introductory speech from Presentation Mastery, the icebreaker speech where you introduce yourself. His previous first speech he went over time, but his second speech finished within time.
John's View of WWII Contrasted with Covid-19
John gave his repeated introductory speech from Presentation Mastery, the icebreaker speech where you introduce yourself. His previous first speech he went over time, but his second speech finished within time.
He said, 'I was born in 1939.' That makes him eighty years old.
He continued, 'In my childhood, Singapore was occupied by the Japanese. When you went out, and passed one in the street you had to bow down - or you got beaten!'
So for him the privations of lockdown in Covid-19 are nothing, compared to life in Singapore in WWII.
Shona's quiz reminded us of salient points.
Best table topics speakers were Jeanette and Angela. Best Speaker was Swarna. Best evaluator was Jeanette.
Hyder's masterclass is repeated on Monday. Jun 15 2020.
